Thank you to all alumni who supported the NOVA Alumni Chapter petition. We’re delighted to share that as of October 2012 we are an official chapter!
We’d love to hear from you about what type of events you’d be interested in attending! Share your feedback with the NOVA Chapter team by taking five minutes to complete a brief survey. We are seeking volunteers to plan fun Terp events in 2013. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Tita Brett.
In 2012 we’ve hosted events, such as:
• April 15, 2012: Completed more than 200 school packs with 100 alumni to benefit local nonprofit Food For Others.
• June 21, 2012: Participated in a Terrapin Club event at Arlington’s Greene Turtle with local alumni.
• June 28, 2012: Hosted a networking event at Main Street Bank.
• October 13, 2012: Collaborated with the Terrapin Club and hosted a football game watch (UMD vs. UVA) at Arlington’s Greene Turtle.
The NOVA Club Leadership is busy planning for 2013, so stay tuned for details about future events.
NOVA Terps Spring Into Action to Help Food For Others and The Power Pack Program(P3)
We live in a great region, but there are people in need.
On Sunday, April 7th, 2013, University of Maryland Alumni of Northern Virginia gathered to help Food for Others by prepareing Power Packs for the Power Pack Program (P3). The Power Packs help feed the many elementary school children in our area that have very little or close to nothing to eat between the lunch they receive at school on Friday, and the breakfast that is served Monday morning.
Together we collected food and put together the Power Packs, which provides children two items each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, in addition to snacks and drinks. The P3 program helps alleviate the children’s hunger and allows them to focus more on their school work.
