The frozen yogurt craze is in full force with a variety of brands popping up all over Tysons Corner area and Northern Virginia.  The Town of Vienna is no different, as Red Mango has taken root right near Madison High School.

A fun aspect of this frozen yogurt wave of new brands is the concept of self serve.  Make it yourself seems to be all over the nation in all types of foods, some local and chain examples are Cava and Chipotle – diners go through the line while their choices of food are prepared right before their eyes.  No one to complain to but yourself if it doesn’t taste good.  You’re the master chef.  Frozen yogurt seems no different now, as many chains locally here in Vienna, McLean, Tysons Corner, Oakton, and even Nationwide – area allowing consumers to pump and pour their own chosen flavors of frozen yogurt, and then even add their own chosen toppings.  Again – you deserve the credit for poor flavor combinations – or explosions of taste.  Choose Wisely!

Two things noticeable right away when you enter Red Mango Frozen Yogurt, that were different than many other frozen yogurt chains, were [1] their many fruit flavors (Blueberry, Mango, Peach, etc. and even Coconut (is that a fruit?)) and [2] that they had clear cups you could use in self serve.  These clear cups were the most fascinating to me.  If you look at the signs and even the photos taken from our local Vienna Red Mango location, the clear cups are for you to create your own parfait.  Love it.  With the multitude of toppings in self serve frozen yogurt places like this, it’s easy for everything to meld together, toppings and flavors alike.  Making a parfait prevents a lot of that, and is really cool to do.  While your personally created Red Mango frozen yogurt parfait is also fun to look at too!

So go check it out.  Get a normal self serve cup at Red Mango, or create your own parfait.  And not to worry, if you aren’t into all the fruity flavors, they still have the 3 good old stand bys of all self serve frozen yogurt places (in Vienna, Tysons Corner, or anywhere nationwide (it seems)): Tart, Chcolate, and of course, Vanilla!
