Reston Town Center Chalk Festival 2014
Today in Reston Town Center there was a Chalk Festival. I’d never heard of such a thing. But looking at the web, turns out they are held all over the place. Some examples of other Chalk Festival locations were: Sarasota Chalk Festival, Denver Chalk Art Festival, Lewisburg (PA) sidewalk Chalk Festival, Pasedena (CA) Chalk Festival, Cleveland Chalk Festival, and the list goes on and on. Enough about other places and their Chalk or Chalk Art Festivals. Let me tell you about what happened in Reston Town Center (Virginia) today!
The Chalk Festival was held today from 7am to 4:30pm in Reston Town Center. The event was presented by IPAR (Initiative for Public Art – Reston). On IPAR’s website the event is described as being, “open to professional artists, amateurs, businesses, families, and kids of all ages.”
Entrants or participants were able to pay to use a 4′ x 4′ square of street to create their artwork. They were given some pastels colors in a blue reusable bag, and also a white umbrella to ward of sun or rain as needed.
It was really a fun event, and amazing to see the creations that occurred on the street. Please take a gander at some of the photos (below) I was able to take when walking through and enjoying the results of many peoples creativity and sweat (yes, it was a hot one today).
