With the official arrival of the fall season happening this week, it is only fitting to discuss the upcoming month of October’s events. October can mean a variety of things for people, but most like to view October as the month of changing seasons and Halloween.
With the changing of summer into fall, the beautiful Farmer’s Markets in the Fairfax area will be on full display. The changing seasonal fruits and vegetables are sure to be something you should check out. The Fairfax Farmers Market, which is held in the Fairfax Government Center, is open every Thursday from 3-7pm. Admission is always free and has a little bit of everything to appeal to everyone. Not just fresh fruits and vegetables are offered. Fresh baked goods, eggs, and seasonal honey and cider are also available among other items. There are also farmers marketing in neighboring cities such as Herndon and Annandale, among a wide variety of others.
Although a Farmers Market might seem more of an adult activity, there are plenty of family events happening around Fairfax County as well. One in particular is the Cox Farms Fall Festival kicking up into high gear starting this weekend and running through November. Cox Farms is celebrating their 40th year in business and has added some new features to the farm this year. This includes five tall slides, hayrides, farm animal and their babies, food, and lots of other entertainment. Also, a small pumpkin is included with every paid admission. More information can be found at the Cox Farms website here.
Of course, with October being the month of Halloween, another activity that will appeal across all ages is the Boo at the Zoo held at the National Zoo. This is a quick event, only lasting from October 23rd to the 25th. There will be plenty of treats, animals, and fun. Costumes are encouraged. More information can be found on the National Zoo’s website here.
