On Sunday morning the Tysons Chamber hosted Tysons Corner 5k run for charity. The run took place 4/13/13 at 8:30am. It was a great event.
I had the pleasure of taking part with my friend and team member, Walter Taylor. It was a lot of fun to exercise in the morning, and in a non-traditional venue. This was a really unique course, being able to run around the Tysons Corner Center Mall 2+ times. Normally when I’ve been on the road, in what was the course for this 3+ mile fitness event, I’m used to being in the car. Because of that, I’d not been aware there were so many hills!
The event benefited TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Programs for Survivors). A quick bite about what TAPS is or does, directly from their website (www.taps.org) = “TAPS is the 24/7 tragedy assistance resource for ANYONE who has suffered the loss of a military loved one, regardless of the relationship to the deceased or the circumstance of the death.”
Some Key facts about the event =
* 155 people participated in the Tysons 5k run (132 pre-registered + 23 race day registrants)
* $12,755 was raise for TAPS
* I was told it will be held again next year! (The Tysons 5k, *not sure if there will be the same beneficiary)
This is excellent that the Tysons Chamber is creating, and putting on these types of events to support great groups like TAPS. If you’re a fitness ethusiast or not, I encourage you to participate in the future. You will meet great people, local people, exercise, be healthy, and
The goody bag also included some great offerings from local Tysons Corner restaurants like Seasons 52, Chima, McCormick & Schmick, and more.
