Food For Others on Giving Tuesday 2016
On Giving Tuesday 2016 Jeff interviewed Annie Turner, the Executive Director of Food For Others. Watch the Video and learn about the 4 main ways that Food For Others combats hunger needs in the local area in Northern Virginia.
[1] Social Workers refer people in need to Food For Others for food through Warehouse Distributions
[2] Food For Others goes to 16 neighborhood sites around the area to distribute food
[3] P3, “Power Pack” program, that gives kids on the free lunch program, at school, a weekends worth of food
[4] Food For Others partners with other organizations in the community to get Food to those in need
Annie also tells of a new initiative that Food For Others has. It is the Choice program. This allows clients of Food For Others to come and pick their own food. Not only is it more dignified, it minimizes waste and allows the clients to make selections that are safe for their dietary needs or restrictions/allergies.
Food For Others is a great local food bank. They serve a need that is right here in the community. This need is much greater than many people realize. Please support them with donations of time, money or food. The need is there year round. Food For Others is able to do what they do with 60% of their man power coming from volunteers. And they have 90% of the food that they distribute is donated.
