REI in Tysons Corner Virginia

Everyone is excited for the new REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) that just opened in late August in the Tysons area! The new REI is located at the southeast corner of Leesburg Pike and Chain Bridge Road, and will offer two stories and 32,800 square feet of top brands of gear and apparel for all types of outdoor and sports enthusiasts. You can find top brand gear for anything from camping to climbing, cycling fitness, hiking, paddling, snow sports and travel.

The store offers a community space where they will host outdoor-related classes, presentations and events. They also provide customers with the opportunity to test new outdoor activities through the stores seasonal rental department. Customers can also be confident that their bike’s are in good hands in the bike shop that offers expert assembly and repair services.

As REI retail director for the Mid-Atlantic district, Ray Dinterman, put it “Tysons is the ultimate shopping hub in Northern Virginia,” and I know many of us Tysons residents would agree! He went on to say that the new store will allow them to “better outfit nearly 200,000 active members who paddle the Potomac and hike the Appalachian Trail.”

Many may, or may not, know that REI partners with various nonprofit organizations that work to preserve and maintain trails, waterways, parks and backcountry destinations. Last year the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, East Coast Greenway Alliance, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and Rock Creek Conservancy where a few of the 12 local nonprofits that were granted $202,500.

As the nations largest consumer cooperative, REI allows members to pay a one time $20 fee to receive a share in the company’s profits through an annual member refund. More than 5 million active members take advantage of this opportunity, in addition to receiving discounts on gear rentals, REI Adventures and trips and REI Outdoor School classes.

As the sixth REI location in the Washington, D.C. area, this store will join the already 128 stores nationwide. In addition to retail stores, REI also operates two online stores – rei.com and REI-OUTLET.com – and they offer the award-winning REI brand and Novara bike products.

Not only is REI adding to the already great Tysons shopping experience, but they will also be hiring approximately 50 new employees for the new location. For those of you who keep up with FORTUNE magazine, you already know that REI has been recognized as on of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” for 16 consecutive years.” If you have a passion for outdoor adventure and feel you can offer quality customer service you can find out how to apply to REI at www.rei.com/jobs.

If you are not familiar with REI, they were founded in 1938 by a group of Pacific Northwest mountaineers seeking quality equipment. They have grown into a national outdoor retail  co-op dedicated to inspiring, educating and outfitting its members and the community for a lifetime of outdoor adventure and stewardship. They are also committed to promoting environmental stewardship and increasing access to outdoor recreation through volunteerism, gear donations and financial contributions.

I encourage the residents of Tysons to go and check out this new store. I bet you will leave with some great gear and perhaps a renewed love for the outdoors. Some of the equipment might be expensive, as well as the overall cost of home improvement. I personally recommend opting for affordable home renovation financing to get money fast and save thousands on fees!
