Tysons Silver Line Metro to Open Saturday July 26th

Tysons Silver Line Metro to Open Saturday July 26th

I’m excited.  Standing here with the Tysons Mall New Silver Line Metro station in the background.  You can see the train pulling in and out as Metro practices before the official opening this Saturday the 26th.  Shoot, everyone is excited that it’s finally here.  Well at least we think so.  And that’s what everyone is saying.  Who am I kidding.  I’m sure it’s really going to happen this time.

The region has held it’s breath for years as the Silver Line Metro, which will eventually go all the way to Dulles Airport and beyond, has been under construction.  And the project had multiple delays, as it was intended to be open and running at the end of last year (2013).  Tysons Corner residents, employees, and shoppers had to wait as the project was delayed to March, and then beyond.  But it’s opening really seems like a reality this time.  The Washington DC Metro authority has even created commercials of it’s own to promote the opening this Saturday July 26th at 12pm.  See some of the videos here =

Other highlights of the Dulles Silver  Line Metro =

* The new line pulls off of the existing Orange line between the East Falls Church Metro stop and the West Falls Church Metro stop

* The silver line has 5 new stops

* Trains are supposed to run every 6 minutes during peak times and every 12-20 minutes during off peak times.
(all this week they have been practicing without paid passengers)

* No metro affiliated parking at any of the 4 stations in Tysons Corner

* The goal is to bring people to Tysons without cars
(thus taking cars off the road)

12pm this Saturday a train will pull out of the Whiele/Reston East Metro station of the Silver Line.  It will be the first official train to run on the Silver line from Virginia to Largo, MD.  Join in the excitement.  All of the silver line stations will open for service at 12pm on Saturday.  This will mean greater NON car access for people to come to and from Tysons Corner and surrounding area.

I’m glad it’s here.  The Silver line of the Metro will be a good addition to our area, and Tysons Corner.
It will be a plus to Real Estate values, and so much more.  Good job to all involved, glad it is finally here.
